Mt Kosciuszko

2228m – The highest point in Australia (Ok, so it is a walk…)

Sep 2014

This was supposed to be my seventh of the Seven Summits.  The easy finale.  However,  the Everest season was shutdown in 2014 because of an avalanche in the ice fall.  Minor spanner in my timing works!  So, number six it is.

We did it the hard way, in winter, snow shoe from the car park (no chair lift), and ski down!

At 10.10am we left the carpark at 1369m.  We had reached the top of the chair lift by 11.30am.  (Side note, if you want a depressing outing, try snow shoeing while people ski around you).  Summit at 1.15pm.  That was 863m of gain in 3hrs, not bad going for three old fellas!
