This was my post TMC (Technical Mountaineering Course) climb. Originally we had discussed Mt Tasman, but that climb requires a little more experience. So next choice, Mt Aspiring, but the weather never improved in Wanaka, so we did a quick run to fox glacier.
At pioneer hut 2pm, left for lendenfeld peak at 3pm, summited 9pm (icy conditions, had to pitch everything), back at hut 2am in time to watch the other hut members getting up to do the same thing! (Nothing like ice climbing via headlamp and full moon!)
Up at 7am, on the move at 8am, chancellor hut at 11.30, heli pickup and delivery at 12. Drive back to Mt cook, arrive 8pm. Shower. Beer. What a mission!!
Very cool climb. Interestingly this climb is the first HALF of doing Mt Tasman… and it took us 11 hrs..
